RX* ISSUE 1!

Too excited to start this recommendation list. These are as much for me as they are for you. I’m realizing you learn a lot about yourself by articulating what you love about the things you love.

Anyway, here’s what I’ve been loving this week.

if you like:

a little treat, a moment to appreciate the subtle things in life, something nutty, something rich…

you’ll love:

HALVA and VANILLA ICE CREAM

The perfect “not-too-sweet” dessert. Have you ever had one of those things that an ex put you onto, and it’s so good you still use it, even if things end brutally? Yeah.

if you like:

watching dust swirl through a ray of afternoon light, watching incense do the same, thinking of music as furniture, modular synths, jazz, a little something in the background while you work, a lot of something in the foreground while you think…

you’ll love:

ENDLESSNESS by NALA SINEPHRO

As someone who has successfully pushed 30, I love jazz. Complex enough to enjoy a close listen but pleasing enough to just put on? I'm sold. So utilitarian.

I’ve started doing a modified Pomodoro technique where I put on an album and work until it’s over. Endless has been my go-to. It's unobtrusive but also stimulating—perfect for focus.

The entire album is gorgeous instrumental jazz swirling around bubbling, plonking, and whirring modular synths. On the first listen, there's an otherworldliness and curiosity in these tracks that’ll make every few minutes feel like you're parting dense brush to reveal a doe lapping gently at a glistening body of water. Then the doe starts absolutely fucking it up on a Moog, just nasty with the keys. Then you're like “omg wow”. But instead of taking out your phone and recording the doe’s synth solo, you enjoy the moment. The doe is thankful because she's still a little insecure performing live after moving her rig from Ableton to Pro Tools. The doe bounces away, leaving you with a blissful calm. Highly recommend.

if you like:

The Brothers Grimm type-beat fairy tales, punishing cinema, true crime, staring at the worst of the human condition and deciding it is still worth salvaging, beautiful digital cinematography…

you’ll love:
